What to Expect Before and During Your Appointment
Once your appointment is confirmed, you will be sent a comprehensive information document outlining important details about our
clinic, services, and what to expect during your visit. We encourage all patients to review this thoroughly before attending. You will
also be sent an online registration form to complete with your medical and Medicare details. Please fill this out before your
appointment.
If you are unable to complete the form online, there is an option to do so in the clinic on the day of your consultation. We kindly ask
that you arrive at least 10 minutes early to allow time for this.
Please note: GP or specialist referral will be required, as well as Medicare details to process any rebate.
On arrival, you will be asked to fill in a registration form with your medical details. With this a GP or specialist referral will be required as well as Medicare details to process your rebate.
Initial consultation will likely be lengthy, sometimes up to an hour. This will include a detailed history and examination, allergy skin testing only if appropriate and formulation of a comprehensive management plan for your condition.
Relevant education will also be provided such as asthma inhaler technique, Epipen education and correct technique for the use of nasal sprays.
Subsequent review visits will be shorter as most of the testing will have been done and will largely consist of chasing results and modifying management.
Allergy Skin Testing Procedure :
– Allergy skin testing involves first marking your skin with a pen.
– Droplets of the allergen are then placed on your forearm, followed by a small prick test with a lancet.
– This is slightly uncomfortable but not painful. There can be about 25 allergens that are tested although this may be shorter depending on your history.
– Once the prick test is performed, you will need to wait 20 minutes before reading.
– The significance of the results will be discussed after the test is performed.
PLEASE NOTE: Dr. Patel will endeavour to keep to time as much as possible, but allergy medicine is complex and he may run behind time. We do apologise for any inconvenience.
